Challenge

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust set out to create a transformative new facility that would unite cancer treatment, research, and wellbeing services within a single building. The aim was to enhance the patient experience, improve operational efficiency, and foster closer collaboration between clinicians and researchers. The challenge lay in delivering a highly complex and technically advanced facility within a live hospital environment, while safeguarding patient services and meeting strict funding and programme parameters.

Solution

G&T provided Cost Management, Project Management, Employer鈥檚 Agent and Life Cycle Costing services, supporting the Trust from project inception through to handover. We played a pivotal role in managing risk, ensuring budget control, and aligning the design with long-term operational efficiency. Our team coordinated a diverse group of stakeholders, from clinical and research leads to donors and design teams, ensuring that the centre not only met its clinical and research objectives but also delivered long-term value through informed life cycle planning.

Outcome

The Oak Cancer Centre is now a flagship facility for cancer care and research, offering integrated outpatient services, diagnostic imaging, research laboratories, and patient support spaces within a calm, uplifting environment. Its design prioritises dignity, accessibility and collaboration, with improved patient flow and enhanced working conditions for staff. G&T鈥檚 leadership was instrumental in delivering the project on time, within budget, and to an exceptional standard鈥攈elping the Trust realise its vision of advancing cancer care through innovation and integration.
